Choo Choo

Mason was so excited about the trains — he’s on a major Thomas the Tank Engine kick right now.

Last week was going to be super busy for us anyway so Mason and I both getting sick just amplified the craziness.  We’re both on the road to recovery but it these colds were doozies.

We had new windows installed in the entire house {more on that later}, which meant that Mason and I probably needed to hit the road.  We bought a train ticket to Portland {$24 – unbelievable!}, where mom picked us up after she went to the flower market and we spent the rest of the week in Hermiston.  We almost didn’t do it since Mason had a slight fever, ear infection and nasty cough, but it was better that he wasn’t at home since our contractors were trying to contain lead paint dust {not to mention there weren’t windows in the house – minor detail}.

And let me just say — travelling by train was AWESOME.  Hiiiighly recommend it, especially with little kids.  The seats were so spacious with loads of leg room, plenty of bathrooms and a place to eat snacks and watch the scenery.  There were even few enough people in our carriage that Mason could roam around a little.  And isn’t there something a little nostalgic about train travel?  Maybe it was the name of our route — the Coast Starlight — or the beautiful train station in Portland {or having read too many Agatha Christie novels}, I can’t wait to do it again.

This kid napped hard, and I enjoyed the ride.
